History of the Trust: Continued

May 20, 1990: The Executive Committee began building the infrastructure for the organization which shall be known as the “Sand Creek Massacre Descendants Irrevocable Trust” by applying for nonprofit status under Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The name “Sand Creek Massacre Descendants Irrevocable Trust ” became successor of predecessor descendants organizations and associations, such as; “Sand Creek Descendants Association Inc.”, “Sand Creek Cheyenne Traditional Descendants Inc.” and “Sand Creek Cheyenne Descendants Band”.

May 24, 1991: Traveled to Lame Deer, Montana to meet with Mr. Steve Brady and the Northern Cheyenne descendants.

June 1990: The Sand Creek Massacre Descendants Irrevocable Trust, hereafter will be referred to as the (Trust), retained Dr. John Moore, Anthropology Department, University of Florida and Dr. Janis Campbell, Anthropologist, from Oklahoma City, OK., who processes the necessary professional and expert credentials to establish the identity of the Sand Creek Bands (Certain Bands) and are able to produce a accurate and reliable Sand Creek descendant’s roll.

June 1990: The Trust retained the services of Van Blakes, Inc., a Certified Public Accountant from Oklahoma City, OK, as a tax Consultant to insure that the Trust fulfills its tax obligations to the IRS.

June 1990: The Trust retained the Derryberry Law Firm of Oklahoma City, OK. as legal Consultants. The law firm was established by senior partner, Mr. Larry Derryberry, following his service as Attorney General of Oklahoma from 1971 to 1979.

July 1990: The Trust established Trust Representatives, to serve as an communications system between the Executive Committee and the descendants, particularity for descendants living outside the reservation boundary through out the United States.

June 23, 1990: The Trust received from the General Council of the Apache Tribe of Oklahoma, resolution GC-90-01, recognizing and supporting the Trust’s efforts, in seeking the treaty promises in Article Six (6) of the 1865 Treaty for all descendants of the Sand Creek Massacre

August 20, 1990: The Trust received from the Sac and Fox Nation resolution SF-90-95, recognizing and supporting the Trust’s efforts for seeking the treaty promises in Article Six (6) of the 1865 Treaty for all descendants of the Sand Creek Massacre.

September 18, 1990: The Trust received from the Wichita and Affiliated Tribes, resolution WT-90-31, recognizing and supporting the Trust’s efforts in seeking the treaty promises in Article Six (6) of the 1865 Treaty for all descendants of the Sand Creek Massacre

October 10,1990: The Trust received from the Caddo Tribe of Oklahoma, resolution 90-09-21, recognizing and supporting the Trust’s efforts in seeking the treaty promises in Article Six (6) of the 1865 Treaty for all descendants of the Sand Creek Massacre
